Squash Seedlings

Today, what caught my eyes were the squash seedlings.

It has just been two weeks but the seeds I sown are now little plants. They looked so delighted when I finally noticed & touched them! I didn't know they were growing fast because they were hidden under the heap of dried leaves and stems. It was good decision to clean that area.

My bro also planted squash weeks ahead of me. They are big now but he saw the leaves are being eaten by worm so he's a bit concerned.

I must find a way to protect my growing seedlings soon!

More Lemon grass!

Going back to my garden. Today, I want to talk about my lemon grass(es).

I'm really amazed with nature. Who would thought I'd have full grown bushes of lemon grass in my backyard now. All I did was bury the discarded stalks with the roots. It has just been 6 months. But I now have a number of healthy bushes and more are growing! Let me show you their pictures

I want lots of lemon grass because we heavily use it for cooking. Our broths and stews are not complete without it. I enjoy drinking it as tea too. Particularly when my menses is about to come. I just boil it together with ginger and drink it on an empty stomach! In minutes my morning sickness is zapped!

I also fancy about making lemon-grass-aromatherapy-oil by myself. I can't wait to grow more than enough for cooking and tea so that I can soon try it!

But first things first. That is to fill the corners with lemon grass first!

Slowly becoming real

I've long been wanting to have a backyard beaming with select herbs and veggies. But since I live in Manila, I thought it was impossible.

Now, in my new home in Paranaque the impossible has turned possible! I managed to have a backyard! Big enough to accommodate what I've been wanting to plant. The okra we recently planted on one of the beds are about 6 inches tall now. They are growing fast! But we had to surround each heap with sticks to protect the growing seedlings from our naughty puppy, Sid. The tomato that my bro ignored in the past is now bearing fruit. It managed to produce 6 medium-sized tomatoes. I accidentally shook it yesterday though, so two fell. The ampalaya is full grown now. I harvested two of its fruits last week. But they were small. So am now working on making the soil fertile through the help of the dried manure from our pigs in Bicol.

Yes, you heard me right. My bro brought a sack of pig manure all the way from Bicol.

More on my garden on my next post.
